- Grasp the typological status of that language at first.
- List and utilize available language resources , together with digital learning tools. Such as corpus, wordnet, thesaurus, Podcasting, Web-based lexicographical tools, etc.
- Determine the "meta-language" (which is linguistic similar to the target language) you will use.
- Set up the goals to be achieved, select the elementary literary works with multilingual translation (e.g., The Little Prince) ; select the advanced/classic works to motivate your further learning steps.
- Extract the basic statistics of vocabulary and some significant language behaviour.
- Learn the components of that language in a generative way: phonetic/phonology, grammar(syntax+morphology) , etc; Learn the script in parallel.
- Absorb practical experiences from the field of contrastive analysis.
- Construct the ontology and lexicon for that (endangered) language, if possible.
